Yearbooks are on sale now
Did you know students create the Eight Acres yearbook? A staff of 22 upper school students learn journalism skills and take the book from 292 blank pages to the stories of the year. For 2023, we are also joined by more than 30 eighth-graders who are prepping a spread about democracy and mid-term elections and writing about their experiences. Be sure to get your book soon. ERB test results are ready to view
The results from the ERB CTP V test your child recently took are in. You can find your child's ERB scores on the PCR Parent Portal, gotohh.org/parentportal.
Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 were tested in the following categories: Quantitative Reasoning, Math, Verbal Reasoning, Writing Concepts, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary and Writing Mechanics. The testing was scheduled on three consecutive mornings and generally took place in your child's advisory group.
The primary function of these results for us is to use them as a tool for curricular reflection. Additionally, these test results allow us to look at the academic achievement and potential of each group. They allow us to make some comparisons between Holland Hall and other independent schools.
Data such as this is best considered with three years of test results using the same instrument. Three years of data provides adequate information to identify patterns and trends within groups of students as well as with individual students. This is our second year of data from ERB, therefore, caution should be exercised in drawing definitive conclusions.
Information from this test should be seen as a "snapshot" only of your child's overall academic performance and should be viewed in the context of what you know about your child's daily classroom performance and teachers' observations.
If you have any questions about how to read this report, please feel free to contact Holland Hall Director for Learning Support Gina Johnson or Middle School Head Jennifer White.
MS Uniforms for 2023-24 school year
The results of our uniform survey are in. Thank you all for your interest — we heard from a majority of you.
Starting with the 2023-24 school year, the Middle School shirts will be navy.
This year’s gray shirts — which were discontinued — and the cardinal red shirts may be worn for the 2023-24 school year.
Girls also will be able to wear khaki skirts, pants or shorts, as well as the navy or plaid skirts.
You may buy the navy shirts from C&J or Lands’ End, both of which will have logoed shirts in a Dry-Fit material, as well as a pique cotton. C&J will have a closeout stock of gray shirts at a discounted price if you’d like to replenish your supply.
We are exploring whether it would be feasible for the DutchZone to carry them, as well.
Please stay tuned for more information.

We recently finished meeting with 92% of juniors! In these individual meetings, we discussed ACT/SAT testing, teacher recommendation letters, their activities in and out of school, and College Seminar. Ask your student about their meeting! We look forward to starting College Seminar with them in the spring semester.
ACT
Reminder, if your student plans to take the February 11 ACT (without writing), the deadline to register is Friday, January 6.
