Exciting news about youth football

Holland Hall is considering joining the Central Football League (CFL) this fall. The CFL will allow the school to establish at least two youth football teams, consisting of four different grade levels: a combined 3rd and 4th grade team, and a combined 5th and 6th grade team. Please note that the CFL enforces a weight limit for ball carriers in each division.

The CFL currently includes 12 teams and has recently approved the addition of another team. More teams may join in the upcoming season. The current teams are Beggs, Chouteau, Inola, Kiefer, Kellyville, Liberty, Morris, Noah, Regent, Sperry, Stroud, Victory Christian, and the newest addition, Mounds. The average roster size is around 20 players, while a minimum of 16 players are needed. If a team exceeds 36 players the roster will be split into two teams. Each team requires a minimum of three coaches.

BSN Sports is the official sponsor of the CFL, providing all equipment and uniforms. There will be a fee for each student who wishes to participate.

We have had several parents inquire about opportunities for youth football, and after exploring both Indian Nations Football (INFC) and the CFL, we feel the CFL may be a better fit due to the combined grade levels to form a team. If your son(s) are interested in playing next season and you are interested in coaching, please contact Chance Clements at cclements@hollandhall.org.

We look forward to the possibility of building a youth football program at Holland Hall!

FROM THE NURSES:

What should kids and teens drink?

What children drink is an important part of a balanced diet, not just what they eat. Their diet has a direct impact on their physical health, including their oral health. It also impacts their mental health, including their quality of sleep.

According to leading health and nutrition organizations, kids and teens should drink plain water and plain milk for nutrition and hydration. Other beverages like fruit juice, plant-based milk alternatives, and flavored milks should be limited. They recommend avoiding any beverages with added sugar and non-sugar sweeteners and any beverages with caffeine. This would include sports drinks, soda, diet soda, coffee, and energy drinks.

For more specific information on these recommendations, the organizations making them, and how drinks can impact children, click here.

It’s Flu Season!

Flu is on the rise in Oklahoma, but it still hasn’t peaked. We have seen a recent increase in the number of Flu cases, along with other viruses, at Holland Hall. It is up to each of us to do everything possible to reduce our chance of getting sick as well as reduce the likelihood of spreading illness to others.

Flu symptoms usually come on suddenly. People who have flu often feel some or all of these signs and symptoms:

  • Fever* or feeling feverish/chills
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.

*It's important to note that not everyone with the flu will have a fever. If you develop any of these symptoms, it is recommended that you contact your primary care physician, stay home, and follow your doctor’s orders to treat the symptoms before returning to school or work. Remember, students must be fever free for 24 hours, without the aid of fever-reducing medications, and feel well enough to attend before they may return to school. Holland Hall’s greatest priority is the health and well-being of our community. We never want a student to feel obligated to attend school when sick. Administration and faculty are dedicated to assisting all students in making up missed assignments/tests due to illness.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for doing your part to help our community stay healthy this season!

The 25-26 FAFSA is live

Filling out the FAFSA is a crucial step in securing financial aid for college – and completing it in a timely manner can increase your chances of aid at some schools. If your student is requesting need-based financial aid from any college, please take care to fill it out.To do:

  1. Create an FSA ID: Both the student and at least one parent must create an FSA ID at studentaid.gov if you don’t already have one. This ID will be used to sign the FAFSA and access federal student aid information.
  2. Gather Required Documents: To complete the FAFSA, you’ll need information from your 2023 tax return, W-2s, and any other financial documents for both the student and parent(s). Make sure to have these ready before you begin.
  3. Complete the FAFSA: Go to fafsa.ed.gov to start the application. Make sure to list all of the schools to which the student is applying.

Check each college’s financial aid deadlines. Some colleges encourage prompt completion of the FAFSA to maximize scholarship opportunities. Some private colleges may also require the CSS Profile in addition to the FAFSA. The CSS Profile costs $25 for the first school and $16 for each subsequent school.Contact your counselor for assistance with applying for financial aid.
