FROM THE NURSE
Winter illness numbers are up
Unfortunately, the number of cases of respiratory illness is up, as is usual this time of year. Flu, RSV, COVID, and other illnesses are high, but are expected to follow similar patterns as 2022.
Per Emergency departments across the US, most respiratory visits are flu-related, but COVID is the biggest cause of severe illness (hospitalization, etc.) and RSV rates seem to be declining.
As always, the best line of defense is hand-washing, staying up-to-date on immunizations, avoiding those who are ill, wearing a mask (if you feel appropriate), and staying home when you are sick. Also, please seek appropriate care if you or your child experiences any difficulty breathing or if you have any other concerns.
