Important ticket information for football game vs. Checotah
If you'd like to watch the Dutch football team take on Checotah tonight at 7 p.m. in the first round of the 3A playoffs, you can watch a livestream on YouTube at gotohh.org/stream. The game should also be available in the Holland Hall app by pushing the "Live" icon at the bottom of the screen, or on the Holland Hall Roku channel.

Veterans free entry for Friday, November 10
The OSSAA is happy to allow a veteran and a guest in for free to the first round playoff game. Veterans need to show a military ID card or their Driver's License that indicates they are a veteran.
Passes
OSSAA Complimentary digital playoff pass is the only pass accepted for playoff contests. Dutchbacker passes will NOT be accepted.

Join us for Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day on Tuesday, November 21, for a welcome from the Head of School and student performances, followed by a campus tour where the students will show you around their buildings! Where in the world is Dutch?!?
Come get a stuffed plush Dutch in the Dutch Zone before the end of the year, and take him on any adventures you have — on or off campus! Just take a photo with Dutch, post it on social media with the hashtag #DutchSighting, and we'll share as many of them as we can! One student per branch also will receive a prize at the beginning of the second semester!
New finds in the Dutch Zone
The Dutch Zone will be open extended hours starting on Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day! Find new products — like cocoa bombs and Apple Watch bands — as well as gift bundles and stocking stuffers. New hours will be posted soon, and always feel free to ask at the front desk if the Dutch Zone can be opened. For big or small purchases, we'll open the DZ for a priviate shopping experience!
Gezellig 2024: Committee meeting set for Nov. 13
It’s a Reveal Party! This month's Committee meeting will focus on the 2024 Gezellig theme and design! We are excited to welcome Annie Brady, with Annie Brady Design, to share her vision for 2024.

Senior Yearbook deadline is approaching
Seniors are at deadline for two vital yearbook tasks. Please make sure you've chosen the image you want in the yearbook ASAP and should turn in the Senior Survey no later than Monday, Nov. 13.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Fourth graders, get ready for BEAR Night
Fourth graders will be celebrating their month long BEAR (Be Enthusiastic About Reading) challenge on Thursday, November 16 and Friday, November 17 with a Noon dismissal. Students had to read at least 400 pages to qualify to attend this exciting event! We are proud of our hardworking students!
8th grade parents can tour the US
The admission department would like to offer 8th grade families an opportunity to learn more about the Upper School on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 8 a.m. The gathering will begin in the Upper School library with time to ask current students questions about their Upper School experience followed by observing morning meeting. The tour will begin around 9:00 and may last about 30 minutes. Please register here if you would like to attend.
What students will do for MS for Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day
Grandparents and Special Friends Day is Tuesday, November 21, and all middle school students will report to Advisory for the morning of activities. Advisors have various fun activities planned for students and their visitors.
Students will be able to take their visitors on tours of their classrooms. We ask that if students leave before 10:30 a.m., they check out with their advisor or with Kelly Danner. Dismissal for all students is at 10:30.
ERB Testing Information - 6th/7th/8th grade
Testing Schedule
November 7 — Students will complete a tutorial during their advisory time so they are familiar with the testing format.
November 13 — Students will take Writing Mechanics and Writing Concepts.
November 14 — Students will take Mathematics 1 and 2, and Verbal Reasoning.
November 15 — Students will take Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Reasoning and Vocabulary.
At Holland Hall, standardized testing allows us a unique look at our curricular strengths and weaknesses. It provides a group profile that can be compared to other independent schools and suburban schools who use this instrument. It also lets us see how we compare on a larger scale with national norms. Additionally, this yearly assessment gives us a snapshot of individual student performance.
Just as important is what standardized testing is not. We do not use it as a means of promoting students or as a predictor of future academic success or failure at Holland Hall. It is important to note that we do not "teach to the test" with our content. Students will practice the test to become familiar with the format and the instructions, but our curriculum drives our content, not any standardized test.
Assessment on a yearly basis with a standardized testing instrument such as ERB CTP5 is common practice among Independent schools like Holland Hall.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
* Make sure your student gets adequate sleep.
* Make sure your student eats breakfast in the morning.
* Make sure your student has a fully charged iPad each day.
* Please have students at school on time each day.
* Do not schedule appointments for your student before noon on test days.
WHAT TO BRING:
* Fully charged iPad for all three days
* A book to read
* Water bottle
WHAT NOT TO BRING:
* Cellphone
* Apple/Garmin watches
* Any device that makes noise

PRIMARY SCHOOL
Second-graders sing to veterans at Inverness
The second grade, under the direction of music teacher Ms. Lori Swisher, sang and honored the many veterans who live at Convenant Living at Inverness this week. They sang patriotic songs, and then personally thanked the veterans in the audience by shaking their hands. The veterans, including Col. Shirley Schelper, who served in both Korea and Vietnam, were touched and took time to talk to each student who came by.

Let your young artists expand their creativity as we adventure into an autumn-inspired harvest of still-life pastels and winter holidays! Pine trees and ornaments, twinkling lights, new fallen snow, and a horse drawn sleigh will bring artistic talents to the table. Come join Ms. Ariel for a whimsical art enrichment adventure.

What parents should know HFM Disease
Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a virus (typically Coxsackievirus) that is common in children under 5 years old, but anyone can get it. It’s not usually serious*, but is very contagious.
It is not the Same as “Foot-and-Mouth Disease” or “hoof-and-mouth disease,” which affects cows, sheep, goats, and pigs. Humans do not get the animal disease, and animals do not get the human disease.
How to prevent HFM:
* Hand washing is the best method of preventing the spread of HFM.
* Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth.
Symptoms include
* Fever
* Eating or drinking less
* Sore throat
* Feeling unwell
* Painful mouth sores. (These sores usually start as small red spots, often on the tongue and insides of the mouth, that blister and can become painful.)
* Skin rash on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. (It can also show up on the buttocks, legs, and arms.)
Most people with HFM disease get better within 7-10 days and can be treated at home. Because HFMD is normally mild, children may attend school provided they:
* Have no fever. (Fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.)
* Have no uncontrolled drooling with mouth sores.
* Feel well enough to participate in classroom activities.
* If you think your child may have HFM, contact your physician for guidance.
Pregnant women should contact their healthcare provider if they think they may have been exposed to hand, foot, and mouth disease or think they may have the disease. Although complications from it are rare, patient medical history and how far along a woman is in her pregnancy can affect the situation.
