Apply now for the American Exchange Project
During the summer of 2025, high school seniors can pack their bags for an unforgettable summer! The American Exchange Project (AEP) has landed at Holland Hall through Upper School Spanish teacher Mr. Leonardo De Andrade, who is inspiring our students to explore a new American community, forge friendships with diverse peers, and discover hidden talents.
AEP founder David McCullough III, fresh out of Yale, embarked on a cross-country journey that opened his eyes to the need for deeper connections among American youth. AEP was born right after, offering free, week-long exchanges for seniors to explore communities vastly different from their own. AEP pairs graduating seniors with a vibrant community outside their usual stomping grounds. Travelers dive into local traditions, try new cuisines, and participate in unique activities. But AEP is more than just sightseeing: it's about building lasting friendships with other teenagers from across the country.
Tulsa families also have an opportunity to participate by hosting an AEP student. From June 25 to July 2, 2025, Tulsa will become a hub of cultural exchange and personal growth for seniors from across the US visiting our city. Applications for students and host families are open now; visit the AEP website or contact Mr. Leonardo De Andrade at ldeandrade@hollandhall.org to learn more and become part of this incredible journey.
Summer 2025: let's discover our world, one friendship, one experience, at a time!

NOTES FROM THE NURSE
Pertussis and Pneumonia rates are up
Pertussis - According to the Tulsa Health Department, “Oklahoma is experiencing an increase in pertussis (whooping cough) cases, similar to what is occurring nationally." Since Jan. 1, 2024, there have been 232 cases of pertussis in Oklahoma, compared to seven cases in 2023.
Pertussis is spread from person to person through coughing or sneezing while in close contact with others. In most cases, school classmates, co-workers, and people in clinic waiting rooms are not at risk, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health. There have been no cases of whooping cough reported to Holland Hall. However, if you or your child has mild respiratory or cold symptoms with a cough that gets worse, can come in “fits,” causes vomiting, creates a “whooping sound,” and/or lingers, please consult your child’s physician for guidance.
Click here for more information about pertussis and how to protect your loved ones.
Pneumonia - According to the CDC, pneumonia (specifically mycoplasma pneumoniae or “walking pneumonia”) cases have risen and remained are high across the nation in all age groups. The increase was highest among children. Since pneumonia is not a “reportable” disease, it is difficult to determine the actual number of cases in Oklahoma, but doctors are seeing a large increase in cases here, as well.
Like other respiratory conditions, pneumonia is spread to others through direct contact with respiratory secretions, like saliva or mucus, by coughing or sneezing, sending respiratory droplets into the air.
Symptoms of pneumonia can include cough, fever and chills, rapid or difficulty breathing, chest pain, headache, fatigue, muscle aches and joint stiffness, loss of appetite, and even confusion.
If you or your child are experiencing any of these symptoms, please contact your physician for guidance. Click here for more information.
