Performance opportunities take center stage in our performing arts programs. Whether it be belting out a song in a musical, playing a viola as a part of an ensemble, or waltzing across the stage at a dance concert, Holland Hall students of all ages have the opportunity to perform.
The dance program at Holland Hall is for all movers, from those who are interested in artistic movement exploration to those who are pre-professional artists, and all levels in between. Dance is offered to 7th-12th grade students. These students will study a variety of dance techniques and styles, explore improvisational and choreographic techniques, and will participate in performance opportunities throughout the year.
Middle School Dance (7th and 8th Grade) is a physical education option during the winter and spring sports season. These students will be introduced to basic dance technique and movement improvisation. Each season culminates in a required dance performance featuring pieces developed by the faculty and the students.
Upper School Dance is offered as either a sports or fine arts credit. Students will delve deeper into more advanced movement, choreography, and artistic expression. Additionally, students have the opportunity to work with guest artists and participate in off-campus performances and workshops. Choreography is also offered as an additional class option for dance students who wish to hone their choreographic skills. Dance and Choreography students are required to participate in culminating performances at the end of each semester, featuring pieces created by faculty, students, and guest artists.
The theatre program at Holland Hall is collaborative in form and multifaceted by nature, utilizing and developing the individual’s senses to promote self-awareness and self-confidence through tolerance, teamwork, and empathy.
In Middle School, the theatre arts curriculum lays foundational work in acting, improvisation skills and theatrical production. Students have the opportunity to participate in a production each year as a performer or as part of the crew.
Students in the Upper School Theatre Department have the opportunity to act, direct, playwrite, and develop skills as part of the technical crew. The Upper School Theatre Arts curriculum will help foster the self expression of both the individual and the ensemble.
